In a separate study, it was found that second-hand smoke exposure was significantly associated with increased risk of hearing loss for low-/mid-frequencies for those who had never smoked and for former smokers, as well as high-frequencies for former smokers.

Spring HLA-PA Banquet
Mark your calendars now: HLA-PA hopes everyone can join us for our next banquet on Sunday May 1, 2011. The banquet luncheon will take place at the Radisson Valley Forge Hotel in King of Prussia. The highlight of the banquet will be the presentation of the 2010 Marcia Finisdore Award for Advocacy to Angela Lundy of Philadelphia. Angela has lived with a hearing loss since 1995 and has worked tirelessly to open doors for people with all disabilities, including sensory disabilities. Her unsuccessful cochlear implant surgery has not affected her determination to advocate for access for all who live with a hearing loss. She developed the “Widow’s Mite” program, in which rehabilitation items are collected and recycled to people in need. She also works with Temple University to provide donated equipment such as VCO telephones, listening devices and alerting devices to people who have a hearing loss.
More details on the banquet will be forthcoming next Spring.
