June Meeting – Audiology Education – Recap

Leah Castrovince,  Au.D. spoke at our June 4 meeting.    A New Jersey native, she did her undergraduate work at the University of Maryland, then received her doctorate in audiology from the University of Pittsburgh.  She is now finishing a year of externship at Temple University.

Externship involves full-time on-site training to polish clinical skills and employ everything that was taught in the classroom. Dr. Castrovince went into considerable detail as to what this process entails, and her personal journey through graduate school, what the expectations and clinical training is like. She discussed the  differences in clinical training between programs and other hearing healthcare professions, and a few things to keep in mind as educated healthcare consumers going forward.

Temple faculty member Eric Bostwick, Au.D. also participated in the presentation.

A lively discussion of these topics followed her presentation.

There were 21 in attendance.

The CART transcript is available on request to hlaamcc(at)gmail.com

Our July event will be a picnic at Fort Washington State Park on July 15.  Details here later.
